South Africa cricket rising stars Morne Morkel and Lonwabo Tsotsobe are over the moon after they were said to have achieved the best in their careers in the rankings of the ICC ODI Player Rankings Which were released yesterday.
Morkel, who helped the home team by nailing an outstanding 12 wickets in South Africa’s 3-2 series win over India, has moved up 10 places to second position in the Player Rankings for ODI bowlers while Tsotsobe was outstanding in his performances and was rewarded as the leading wicket-taker in all the series.
He has in his bag, 13 wickets and has moved up38 positions to be on position 10 of the ODI rankings.
Meanwhile, teammate Dale Steyn has climbed the ladder nine places up after an accomplishment of eight wickets in the series to occupy eighth position, which puts the country in good spirit as it now has three bowlers inside the top 10.
Joining the two is England batsman Jonathan Trott who has also been impressive in the over the past few months making him the biggest mover in the ODI rankings in England.
The 29-year-old Warwickshire batsman finished as the most successful batsman in the seven-match series between Australia and England with 375 runs. As a result, he has been rewarded with a jump of 23 places which has given him a career-best to date ranking of 19th.
India’s Virat Kohli, Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, and South Africa’s JP Duminy in 18th position (up by eight places) are also in the top 20. Proteas maestro, Hashim Amla has ther lead over team-mate AB de Villiers by a rather large margin in the batting table.
England’s Paul Collingwood is the only change in the In the Player Rankings for ODI all-rounders, topping his the entry in fifth position.
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan heads the list in this category. In team rankings, Bangladesh has moved ahead of the West Indies and has secured eighth place, all thanks to Sri Lanka’s 2-0 win over Darren Sammy’s side in the three-match series which finished in Colombo on Sunday, February 6.
