SA Sports Awards to be held in Jozi

Three new categories have been introduced in the South African Sports Awards, this after a successful host of the 2011 sports awards in Sun City which saw many a Sports fanatics, fraternities as well as associates come together to witness the best of the best in sports. This year’s annual event will be held in Sandton City of Gauteng as it has been a mandate to give each province an opportunity to host the phenomenal event.

In addition to the 17 categories of the sports awards are the newly three categories that are of school and education concern. These include the school team of the year, the developing school of the year as well as the best recreation body of the year.

 Committee member Bongani Zondi emphasised during a press conference that the purpose of of these new categories is to see the development of sports in schools, to encourage children to take participation in sports codes.

“We want to see growth in school sports, supporting our minister of sports in his journey to promote school sports with his inclined sports Wednesday in school. Sports starts at an early age to reach bigger heights and thus, such motivation as the SA sports awards will inspire many more children to push tougher.” He explained

He also added that it thus important that the schools must be motivated to vote for their teams from local, national as well as provincial, with regard to schools even the governing body of school can take participation in the voting part of the awards.

Meanwhile the federations of sports like the Premier Soccer league And South African Rugby Union are also encouraged to vote or nominate their favourite players and so forth.

The minister of Sports and recreation is expected to make a public announcement of the top nominees on October 4, with the main event-taking place on November 4.

However, prior that, the public can start familiarising themselves with the Sascoc website and sms line to vote for their favourites athletes and even teams.
