SELATI CUP SET FOR THRILLING QUARTER-FINALS

Flash back…Boschfontien FC celebrate their championships after winning the Selati Cup last yearTHE Selati Cup has progressed to the quarter final stages after a thrilling round of 16. This weekend will see 8 sides battle it out at Driekoppies and Kamaqhekeza Stadium in their quest to take the next step to being crowned 2019 champions.
Phiva FKW, Mananga Royal Eagles, Langeloop Blue Crane, Block C Blue Birds, Schulzendal, Kwamhlushwa City Stars, Boschfontein Rovers and Boschfontein FC will all be looking to stake their claim as potential champions come Sunday, 19 May 2019.
The Selati Cup, which is in its 13th season, was conceived as a way of bringing companionship, entertainment and joy to the people of Mpumalanga. This has been more than evident this season with a staggering 654 goals scored in just 120 matches. The Cup also forms a valuable platform for up and coming players and coaches to showcase their talent.
Boschfontein FC’s Manjoe Bojosi certainly took advantage of the stage in the last 16, and placed his team firmly in the running for the tag of tournament favourites as he scored 5 goals to break the tournament record for most goals in a single game. If he can continue his run of form, is team look set to continue their run towards the semi-finals.
Also contenting for a semi-final spot are Selati Cup defending champions, Boschfontien FC. The team are in top form and enter the last eight, determined to make history by being the first team to win it consecutively.
Tournament Coordinator, Kenneth Phiri was pleased with the progress of the tournament so far: “So far it has been very exciting, The Selati Cup is about spreading joy. There’s no better way to do that than through people’s common passion for football. There’s a real buzz around the event and that is ultimately what it’s about, bringing excitement to the people. I hope to see the full community at the games, supporting their local players,” said Phiri.
