The Sharks have put forward a formidable team for their European Challenge Cup semi-final clash against Clermont Auvergne at Twickenham Stoop in London this Saturday. The lineup includes eight Springboks starting and two additional Springboks ready from the bench. The game is set to commence at 1:30 pm.
ALL-SPRINGBOK FRONT ROW TO FACE CLERMONT
Head coach John Plumtree has selected an all-Springbok front row featuring Ox Nché, Bongi Mbonambi, and Vincent Koch, poised to directly challenge Clermont’s forwards. In the second row, seasoned lock Eben Etzebeth will partner with Emile van Heerden.
The team’s backline is studded with Springbok talent, including scrum-half Grant Williams, winger Makazole Mapimpi, captain and centre Lukhanyo Am, and fullback Aphelele Fassi, all crucial for penetrating Clermont’s defense.
SPRINGBOK STRENGTH ON THE BENCH
Additional Springbok power comes off the bench, with prop Ntuthuko Mchunu and centre Francois Venter ready to contribute.
However, the squad faces the absence of the injured Coenie Oosthuizen, Curwin Bosch, and Jaden Hendrikse.
CAPTAIN AM: TEAM BUOYANT AND READY
From London, captain Lukhanyo Am shared the team’s buoyancy and eagerness. “In matches like this, it’s all about optimal preparation, and we’ve worked hard to position ourselves favorably,” stated Am. He stressed, “When it’s time to suit up, it’s all about trusting in our preparations.”
Am highlighted the match’s importance, remarking, “This is a significant game for us, and there’s a palpable excitement about facing a high-caliber team like Clermont in the semis.”
