The Sharks are reportedly planning a spectacular move to bring back one of their former stars, now a Springbok World Cup champion!
In a bid to bolster their lineup, the Sharks are eyeing a return for the overseas-based Springbok Andre Esterhuizen for the upcoming season.
Esterhuizen, who has a history with the Sharks, is currently with the English Premiership team, Harlequins. Despite his contract with Harlequins running until the end of the 2024/25 season, the Sharks are purportedly ready to pay a hefty release fee of £500,000 (approximately R11 million) to secure his early release.
This information comes from the Sunday newspaper Rapport, which suggests that the Sharks are targeting Esterhuizen as a replacement for another Springbok, Rohan Janse van Rensburg, who is set to join the French team Bordeaux after this season.
Furthermore, the Sharks have initiated talks to entice Springbok prop Trevor Nyakane back to Kings Park. However, they are encountering strong competition from the Bulls, who are keen on bringing the front-row player back to Loftus Versfeld.
