DAVHANA Shooting Stars had a good reason to smile all the way to the bank, after they clinched the R30 000 first prize of Safa Vhembe Total Challenge on Saturday.
Shooting Stars outmuscled Joe Express by 4-2 in the final that was played at Black Leopards’ home ground, Tshifulanani Stadium near Thohoyandou.
This annual tournament featured all the amateur clubs affiliated to Safa Vhembe and it started last month.
The event was sponsored by Total SA.
Joe Express also had something to wipe off their tears, as they walked away with R15 000 runners-up prize.
The federation’s regional competitions manager Lali Mafenya said they were impressed by the high standard of football displayed.
“We want to commend our sponsors for their unwavering support to the grass-root development. To the clubs we say let the prizes form foundation to the winners and the losers should also learn from their mistakes,” said Mafenya.
Meanwhile Question Mark FC turned into an answer in the Safa Mopani Mayor’s Cup when they defeated Baobab Zero Fake 10-9 through penalties to win the R10 000 first prize.
The two sides failed to score during the final that was played at Nkowankowa Stadium on Sunday to the delight of a full house capacity.
Zero Fake received R5 000 as runners-up prize.
Mopani regional president Vincent “Khaya” The tournament was sponsored by Fleet Africa and Super Group while for Premier Soccer League referee Herman Nkuna was a coordinator.
Ramphago praised the sponsors and the clubs.
“That was the beginning and we hope that the best is still on the way. The attendance was a clear indication that people are thirsty for the tournaments. We will continue to organize the events of this magnitude to ensure that more talent is unearthed,” said Ramphago.
