Siya Kolisi urges Springboks to stay grounded after thrashing Wallabies

Siya Kolisi Urges Springboks to Stay Grounded After Dominant Win Over Wallabies

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi expressed his satisfaction with the team’s “special” 33-7 victory against the Wallabies in their opening Rugby Championship match at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Saturday. However, he emphasized the need for the team to remain focused and grounded as they prepare for the challenges ahead.

Kolisi acknowledged that while the victory was significant, the team cannot afford to rest on their laurels. He anticipates a strong response from the Wallabies, who will have a week to regroup before the next encounter.

KOLISI URGES SPRINGBOKS TO STAY GROUNDED

The Springboks are set to face Australia again next weekend in Perth, and Kolisi stressed the importance of staying focused and continuing to work hard.

“Next week is going to be a completely different challenge, and we know it will be tougher, so we need to remain focused and keep working hard,” Kolisi stated.

The captain expressed his happiness with the opening win and securing a bonus point, but he cautioned that this is only the beginning.

“This was an important away win for us, and a special one too,” Kolisi said. “In the last few years, we didn’t start well away from home, so to get this win was special, and we are really happy about earning the bonus point.”

Kolisi also noted the significance of the win, given South Africa’s recent struggles in Australia.

“We haven’t done well in Australia especially, so we were very focused on turning that around going into this game, even though this ground is a fortress for them. As I said earlier in the week, we knew we couldn’t win the Rugby Championship here, but we could lose it here.”

Despite the dominant scoreline, Kolisi felt that the Springboks missed opportunities to put even more points on the board.

“We played well at moments, but we also left a lot of points out there.”

SOUTH AFRICAN FANS SHOW THEIR SUPPORT IN BRISBANE

The sellout crowd at Suncorp Stadium included a strong contingent of Springbok fans, whose presence was felt throughout the match.

Kolisi expressed his appreciation for the support from the South African fans, noting the honor of playing for his country.

“The people of South Africa always make an effort to come out and support us, and it was great to feel that. We know next week will be the same in Perth,” said Kolisi.

“It’s a privilege for us to do what we do, and we want to come out next week and build on this performance.”

The Springboks are scheduled to travel to Perth on Sunday, with on-field preparations for the next Test beginning on Monday.
