SNUBBED: South African Referees Excluded from URC Playoff Duties

The match officials for the 2024 United Rugby Championship quarter-finals have been confirmed, and the final 16-person panel includes NO South Africans!

The appointments for the United Rugby Championship quarter-finals have been announced, revealing a few surprises.

The quarter-final lineup features Munster, the Bulls, Leinster, and Glasgow hosting Ospreys, Benetton, Ulster, and the Stormers respectively.

When the competition organizers announced the match official lineup for these four showdowns, the notable absence of South African referees was evident, as they did not make the cut.

SA TEAMS’ MATCH REFEREES REVEALED
The playoffs involving South African teams will be exclusively officiated by referees from Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.

Scotland’s Mike Adamson will officiate the Bulls’ encounter at Loftus, assisted by Sam Grove-White and Adam Jones, with Ben Whitehouse serving as the TMO (all Welsh).

The Stormers will have an all-Irish officiating team, with Chris Busby in the middle, Frank Murphy and Peter Martin on the touchlines, and Mark Patton in the TMO box.

OTHER UNITED RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFF REFS
Scottish female referee Hollie Davidson will oversee Munster’s clash against Ospreys, with Italians Andrea Piardi and Gianluca Gnecchi as her sideline assistants. Scotsman Andrew McMenemy will be the TMO.

The all-Irish quarter-final between Leinster and Ulster will be officiated by Irishman Andrew Brace, with his countryman Eoghan Cross and Wales’ Craig Evans providing sideline assistance. Ireland’s Brian MacNeice will be the TMO.
