Springbok Star Emerges as a Gamechanger for His New URC Team

Ulster coach Dan McFarland has highly commended Springbok prop Steven Kitshoff for his outstanding start with the team in Belfast.

Following Ulster’s narrow 22-21 victory over Leinster in the United Rugby Championship, McFarland highlighted Kitshoff’s significant impact. The two-time Rugby World Cup champion joined Ulster at the season’s onset but began playing only after the world tournament in France.

A GAME-CHANGING ADDITION

Kitshoff’s arrival in Belfast proved timely, as the team had faced a series of defeats in December. Since then, Ulster has bounced back with three wins, including impressive victories against Racing 92 and Leinster.

McFarland pointed out that while Kitshoff is renowned for his scrummaging skills, his contributions in open play are invaluable to Ulster.

“He arrives with immense credibility. His play around the park, especially, is a major boost,” McFarland stated to the press.

“He offered insights at a scrum meeting two weeks ago that really resonated with the team. His on-field actions – effective ball carrying, solid defense, and constant threat at the breakdown – are remarkable. He’s exceptionally agile.”

A LEADING FIGURE

McFarland also views Kitshoff as a natural leader, noting his willingness to speak up and drive change.

“He’s direct and constructive in his feedback. His experience as a double World Cup winner and captain of a URC-winning team speaks volumes of his leadership qualities,” McFarland further added.

Ulster is now set for a break before facing the undefeated Toulouse in the Champions Cup group stage on January 13th.
