SPRINGBOK WOMEN’S SEVENS TEAM SOARS TO NEW HEIGHTS
The Springbok Women’s Sevens team will be leaving Los Angeles with pride after achieving their best result of the 2024 Sevens season by finishing sixth in the year’s fifth tournament.
This achievement also propelled them to their highest ever ranking, placing them tenth in the standings.
Despite facing defeats to the USA in the Cup quarter-finals and France in the fifth-place play-off on the final day, Springbok Women’s Sevens head coach Renfred Dazel expressed immense pride in his team’s performance throughout the weekend. Victories against Fiji and Brazil on the second day at Dignity Health Sports Park secured their top season finish.
Head coach Renfred Dazel found additional positives in the team’s ascent in the rankings, particularly appreciating the solid performances during the consecutive weekend tournaments.
BLITZBOKS EXPERIENCE ANOTHER SETBACK
Contrastingly, the Blitzboks ended up in 11th place in Los Angeles, a result that adds to the challenges facing their series title hopes.
The Blitzboks secured a victory over Canada 28-15 on Sunday night in the 11th-place play-off, highlighted by Zain Davids scoring twice along with tries from Ryan Oosthuizen and Tristan Leyds.
This victory followed a closely fought win over Spain 22-19 in their final pool match, which came after losses to Ireland and Argentina. Unfortunately, the Blitzboks then lost a 10-0 halftime lead to fall 19-10 to Samoa in the ninth-place semi-finals.
