The Springboks are fully aware that Australia will be seeking revenge for their 33-7 defeat in the Rugby Championship opener when the two sides meet again in Perth. Springbok No. 8, Elrigh Louw, expressed that they are looking forward to the challenge of facing a determined Australian side eager to avenge their earlier loss.
With Rassie Erasmus making ten changes to the matchday squad, Louw is one of only five players from the previous Test to retain his place in the starting lineup.
Springboks Understand the Key to Victory
Louw, known for his physicality with the Bulls, is eager for the rematch and the opportunity to start again. He emphasized the importance of seizing every chance to wear the green and gold jersey.
“The Wallabies will definitely come back stronger,” Louw acknowledged. “They’ll refine their game, and we’re prepared for that. It’s crucial for us not to be caught off guard by their tactics and plans, so we need to go out there and execute our game plan to the best of our ability.”
Getting his second consecutive start and earning his sixth Test cap is something that excites Louw.
“I gained some confidence from last week with my first start, and now I know what to expect this week. I can’t change much about how I play, but I can give my all for the team,” Louw stated. “Everyone has a role, and looking back at my career, there isn’t much difference between playing No. 8 and flanker. I just like to get my hands on the ball and play my game.”
Australia, on their part, has made five changes for the upcoming contest.
Intense Competition for Positions
With fierce competition for the Bok No. 8 position and Jasper Wiese set to return from suspension, Louw understands the bigger picture within the team. He knows that his focus must be on making the most of every opportunity he’s given.
“We are all aligned with the team’s plans, and as coach Rassie mentioned, he wants to build squad depth and expose players to top-tier rugby. My goal this weekend is to do my best and take advantage of this opportunity,” Louw said.
Louw is also looking forward to partnering with scrumhalf Morne van den Berg, who will earn his first Test start this weekend.
“We played together briefly in the Test against Portugal, but we’ve trained well together this week, and that gives us confidence heading into the game,” Louw added.
