Springboks Lead Sharks to Uncommon Win

The Sharks notched only their second victory of the URC season with an unexpected win against Ulster in Durban on Saturday. They finally broke their dismal streak with a tense 10-point win over the Irish team, Ulster, at Kings Park on Saturday afternoon. It remains uncertain if the Sharks have turned the tide in their challenging season, yet they rightfully earned their win in the match against Ulster. Players like Lukhanyo Am, Makazole Mapimpi, Eben Etzebeth, Vincent Koch, and particularly Ox Nche showcased their world champion caliber, playing a pivotal role in securing a positive outcome for the home team. However, it’s worth mentioning that scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse found it difficult to significantly influence the game. His performance in a Sharks uniform this season has been baffling, raising concerns for the Springbok selectors as the Test season approaches. SHARKS VERSUS ULSTER MATCH SUMMARY The match was not a showcase of high-quality rugby, but the Sharks managed to overcome a deficit and maintain their lead under pressure to finish the game victoriously. Ulster opened the scoring with Harry Sheridan finishing off a smart lineout move. The Sharks responded when Mapimpi kicked the ball downfield following a turnover, and newcomer Ethan Hooker demonstrated exceptional speed to set up Phepsi Buthelezi’s try. Siya Masuku converted the try, bringing the score to a 7-7 tie at halftime. In the second half, the Sharks dominated for long periods and fully deserved their 17-7 lead, achieved through a converted try and a penalty. Ulster narrowed the lead to five points as the final quarter neared, promising an exciting conclusion. However, Bongi Mbonambi’s try from a maul near the end secured the Sharks’ victory.
