Springboks’ New Zealand Coach: Honiball Was My Favorite Player

The Springboks’ new attack coach, former All Blacks star Tony Brown, has singled out former flyhalf Henry Honiball as his favorite player.

One of the most exciting additions to the Springboks coaching staff is Tony Brown, the former All Blacks playmaker. Brown’s focus will be on enhancing the South African team’s attacking prowess.

The Springbok coaching staff recently held their first in-person strategic session and player alignment camp in Cape Town. Brown is tasked with bringing a fresh edge to the team’s offensive strategies.

The Test season for the Springboks kicks off on 22 June against Wales, with 10 other Test fixtures confirmed for the year.

“I am confident that I can make a significant impact on the Springboks’ attack,” Brown stated, generating excitement among fans. “If we can match our dominance in attack with our performance in other areas of the game, combined with the quality and commitment of our players, I believe that with the right coaching, we can remain a dominant force.”

“Of course, the Boks have their own distinctive style, and their physicality is a major aspect of their game,” he added. “The team boasts incredible athletes, some of the best in the world. While drawing on my experiences playing and coaching in New Zealand and Japan, we will never stray from the team’s DNA. My aim is simply to introduce a few new elements to our game.”

SPRINGBOKS EAGER TO RETURN TO ACTION
Brown revealed that former Springbok flyhalf Henry Honiball is his favorite player, underscoring his respect for South African rugby.

Honiball, who represented the Springboks in 35 Tests between 1993 and 1999, was regarded as a player ahead of his time, possessing skills that would be highly valued in the modern game.

“I have always admired the way the Springboks play,” Brown said. “In fact, Henry Honiball was my favorite player. It’s a pleasure to watch them play, and it’s an honor to be part of this group.”
