South Africans are a crazy bunch, when it comes to their sports and no matter how much a person can claim sanity; you just have to wait until their respective team loose or even the national team. Hell definitely breaks loose.
The Proteas are back home after losing in the quarter finals recently and I swear even people who do not have a clue as to what is happening on the field were giving out their two cents thoughts as if it is going to make a difference.
I personally don’t like how we have decided to tag our cricketers Chokers because I think every time they go out to play it never crosses their mind that’s where everything is going to end for them.
To reach the quarterfinals is no child’s play so really, they have to be commended even though I can already hear some murmurs that yeah why they didn’t go all the way to win the Cup.
Lest I be told how weak my argument is and how we like celebrating mediocrity I also believe that at the end of the day, the one with a stronger mentality will definitely win on any given day just like when playing chess.
Cricket aside soccer has also been very exciting especially now because it’s nearing the end of the league.
Orlando Pirates which was on top of their game for most of this season are doing what they know best, giving their fans heart palpitations.
I can understand the fans frustrations cause every time its so near yet so far for them, and all because they start running instead of walking and when they tire they not only walk but they start crawling.
My beef with most teams is the fact that they are afraid of using their scoring boots; and when they win it’s by solitary goal which is well and good because it secures the three points but at the last hurdle they loose because of the goal difference.
Ask Chiefs and also Pirates because they have experienced it and it was a bitter pill to swallow for the fans; and at the moment Wits has more goals that so called big teams even though they are not in pole position to clinch the title, which is a shame to say the least.
My observations aside I hope that Pirates will show grit and clinch the title because it’s never over until the fat lady sings. I am not a Pirates fan but I am rooting for their ever hoping fans that the sun will shine in their corner after nearly a decade of no league silverware on their shelf.
On the smaller version of PSL, Jomo Cosmos is on its way to the elite league after doing its own yo-yoing for the past couple of seasons. It’s a shame that a team like that cannot hold its own when it comes to crunch time. Moroka Swallows just like Leeds United in the UK needs to catch a wake up and maybe if they can be relegated they will learn a lesson, but their die hard fans will just like Cosmos fans support them in lower ranks.
On a positive note Katlego “she is stalking me” Mphela the boy who calls and answers himself broke the spell that the Egyptians has had on Bafana Bafana for as long as the fans can remember by scoring the only goal of the game which took his tally to 18 and seven points to be on the summit of Group G that is preparing for 2012 Afcon in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
Congratulations are also in order for our acting SAFA CEO Pinky Lehoko, at least it shows that loyalty pays especially after working for the same company for 18 years. This also shows that woman can hold positions not because they are tokens but they deserve.
PS: Can the powers that be leave the Bafana Bafana name alone because I don’t see any reason to mend something that is not broken? Next time they will want to do away with names like Banyana Banyana, Amajita, Amabinneplaas etc. They should just pay off the guy who has the rights to the name because frankly I don’t think he will fight it as he already made millions out of the Bafana name unless he is just a greedy person who wants to line his pockets more with our money. Till next time.
