THE race for a place in this year’s Telkom Charity Cup is hotting up with the country’s top three giants, Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates being challenged by AmaZulu and Mpumalanga Black Aces.By 10.30am this morning, Sundowns were still hanging to the top position on the charts with 56 594 votes with AmaZulu hot on their heels behind them on second with 51 052 votes.
The two Soweto giants, Chiefs and Pirates were on the 3rd and 4th positions with 48 287 and 44 406 votes respectively with Aces chasing on the the 5th position with 36 507.
Ironically, Platinums Stars who participated in this one day event when the province of North West where they are based hosted the competition are not anywhere near the top five clubs after having collected only 283 votes to occupy the 8th position behind Moroka Swallows and Santos which have gunned 12 031 and 315 votes respectively.
Voting closes on Sunday at 12 mid-night with the draw for the top four clubs being conducted on Tuesday, August 3.
This year’s Telkom charity Cup will be played at Soccer City, and the sponsors and Telkom Charity Trust under the guidance of Dr Leepile Taunyane said they are targeting to raise R5 million for charity organizations.
