THERE are many medium-sized sedans in the running for the 2012 Car of The Year title. There’s the competent Hyundai Elantra, established Volkswagen Jetta, and the all-new Ford Focus.
The new Ford Focus looks sharper than ever in this latest guise – and it’s on par with the rest of its sharp-looking siblings in the Ford range. Ford’s philopsophy of “Kinetic Design” has worked well, aesthetically, all the models in the range are desireable – from the B-Segment fighter, the Fiesta, to this Focus, and even their latest addition to the range, the Kuga.
The Focus is a key model for the American automaker, having sold 10 million units globally, since being introduced in 1998. Ford is determined to continue the success of its predecessors with this new one.
“The Focus has garnered solid support over the years, but in designing the new generation version engineers sought to take the already outstanding elements of the existing package and elevate them to even greater heights. The result is a model that boasts expressive design, affordable innovation, superior quality, responsive performance and exceptional fuel economy,” said Ford Marketing Manager, Ben Pillay.
Inside the new Ford Focus, quality and feel is impressive. They’ve employed Ford’s latest generation “Human Machine Interface” system, which uses five-way toggle switches in the steering wheel, giving control of the two main vehicle displays on the instrument cluster and in the centre of the instrument panel.
Ford has introduced the Focus range with a full eight models – meaning that you’ll be able to choose a Focus, whatever your tastes and budget. There are four sedan models and four hatchback models. The levels of trim start off with Ambiente, then move to Trend and there is also a Sport trim level available.
Standard equipment in the Ambiente models include anti-locking braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability programme, driver and passenger front and side airbags, air-conditioning, a six-speaker audio system and electric windows for the front. The Trend model gets added visual appeal in the form of 16-inch alloy wheels, and inside, curtain airbags, steering controls, cruise control, rear electric windows and Bluetooth connectivity has also been thrown into the mix.
The Sport model is at the top of the range. This comes with a sport suspension, 17-inch alloy wheels, half-leather sport seats, heated front seats, keyless entry with Power Start button, a 9-inch digital screen and a 9-speaker SONY audio system.
The new Ford Focus also comes with a standard 4 year/120 000 kilometre warranty, as well as a 5 year/90 000 kilometre service plan. There is also a 3 year roadside assistance plan.
