Bloemfontein Celtic will be looking to dent the title aspirations of Kaizer Chiefs when the teams meet for an Absa Premiership match at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium tonight at 7:30pm.
The game was originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon but persistent rain waterlogged the pitch and the encounter was rescheduled for midweek.
Celtic are the only team in the league with an unbeaten home record, and they showed just how difficult a place Seisa Ramabodu is to visit last Wednesday evening when they played to a 1-1 draw with log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
The result saw Phunya Sele Sele drop a place to sixth on the log, but they will be confident of retaining their unblemished home record, though all of their last three games in Mangaung have ended in draws.
Chiefs will head to Bloemfontein full of confidence after claiming a 3-1 home win over AmaZulu last midweek. The Soweto side may have lost away to Ajax Cape Town last weekend, but their overall form is good, with four wins from their last five outings.
Amakhosi have dropped to fourth place on the standings as a result of not playing on the weekend, but if they win this game in hand then they will go top of the log.
In head-to-head stats, Celtic and Chiefs have met 46 times in the league since 1985.
Amakhosi have won 27 games to Phunya Sele Sele’s ten, while nine encounters ended in draws. Celtic’s home record in this fixture reads P22 W8 D7 L7.
The teams have already met twice this season (a MTN8 quarterfinal and a first round league match) and both games ended with the same score line, 1-0 to Chiefs. Striker Knowledge Musona scored the winning goal on both occasions.
Celtic’s line-up from their 1-1 draw with Sundowns: Tignyemb; Moleko, Nthethe, Goldstone, Hlela; Mshengu, Kekana, Kalala (Oersen 78’), Spandeel; Mulenga (Chenene 60’), Mthembu (Bacela 55’).
Chiefs’ line-up from their 3-1 win over AmaZulu: Khune; Tau, Nahayo, Isaacs, Jambo; Dladla, Yende (Ncanana 88’), Letsholonyane, Nale (Lewis 73’); Musona, Motaung JR (Ngcobo 46’).
