Top strikers running against time for the Golden Boot award

NINE minutes is standing on the way of few players and the Absa Premiership’s Top Goal-Scorer award as the curtain is about to go down to witness the end of the 2012/13 season calendar.

By the time of going to the press, Moroka Swallows’ rejuvenated striker Katlego Mashego was still in the lead with 13 goals followed by Kaizer Chiefs’ Bernard Parker with 12 goals.

Apart from Parker, Mashego’s other opponents who are also challenging the top goal-scorer award include Maritzburg United’s Culbert Malatjila, his team-mate Bennet Chenene and University of Pretoria’s towering striker, Mame Niang who have each rattled the net ten times.

With only one match remaining for Swallows, Maritzburg and AmaTuks to wrap their 2012/13 season, chances are that Mashego and his two opponents, Chenene and Malatjila have slight chances of laying their his hands to the title with Parker as the main favourite as Chiefs were still remaining with two matches against SuperSport United and AmaTuks by the time of going to the press.

With the high competition lately in the Absa Premiership, it remain to be seen as to which of the players in this four dog-race for the player with the golden boot full of goals which will be reveled come Saturday, May 18, the day dubbed as Super Saturday when all the 16 Absa Premiership clubs face each other in what is expected to be the judgement day as tears of joy and sadness will be shed on the day.

Other players have an outside chance of pulling all stops in their glory dream for the award include Mogakolodi Ngele of Platinum Stars who has 9 goals to his credit with the following players hot on the heels of those on top with 8 goals each, Welcome Qalanto (Chippa United), Mabhuti Khenyeza (Ajax Cape Town), Rodney Ramagalela (Black Leopards) and Lehlogonolo Majoro (Kaizer Chiefs).

The May 18 (Saturday)’s last league matches fixtures are, kick-off for all the matches is at 3pm:
