WHEN one drives into Polokwane from any direction, one cannot help but notice a myriad of signage advertising accommodation establishments jostling for attention.
Some of the places of accommodation can be seen from the main roads, but many others operate very deeper into Polokwane’ suburbia. One such place is Vuwa Lodge, which is based at Flora Park, a suburb behind the city’s well known Savanna shopping mall.Vuwa is located in the heart of the middle class suburb, and thanks to the clear signs leading to establishment, it was easy for the Sports Focus team to find it.
Vuwa means “wake up” in Venda, but it is the simple hospitality of the place and its beauty that touches you. It is a simple lodge which offers adequate luxury to make you feel at home. The establishment was opened in 2007 with 13 comfortable rooms. It also offers modest conference facilities, which are people for business meetings by the local business people and government departments.
The owner, Thomas Ramulifho, says he was blessed from the minute he opened his place.”Vuwa was opened around the time the ANC was to hold its Polokwane conference in 2007. I did not plan for the opening to be at the time but the coincident proved to be a blessing because I made good business,” explains Ramulifho.”Local politicians who had to conference with their visiting guests at Vuwa Lodge also liked my place and therefore recommended it to local and provincial government departments. It’s been good rains for me ever since.”
So good is business that Ramulifho, a former teacher, has bought out his back opposite neighbour to expand. He says even the neighbour next door is willing to sell.”My next plan is to expand bigger conference facilities and a state of the art rooms.”We aim to make a huge impression with our new rooms, from specially designed beds to modern gadgets. Vuwa will be the talk of the town,” boasted Ramulifho.
The soft-spoken Ramulifho started business life in construction. He sold his construction business to try his hand in hospitality industry, and he will be opening his second establishment in his hometown of Vuwani. He went into business after many years in teaching initially at high school and later as a lecturer at the University of Limpopo.
The beautifully furnished Vuwa Lodge is expecting to coin it a lot more during the forthcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup.The lodge has been accredited by the 2010 LOC in Polokwane for accommodation purposes, something Ramulifho is very proud of.The Limpopo capital is the host city. The new Peter Mokaba Sports Complex will host four first round matches, starting with Algeria v Slovenia on June 13.”I love football, so you can imagine the lengths I would go to, to please my football guests.
“I love entertaining, so it is going to be a happy time for everybody who will be at Vuwa Lodge during the football tournament,” adds Ramulifho, whose lodge boasts a lounge with a big screen HD television. For rates and other information visit www.vuwalodge.co.za or call 015 296 1496.
