When Will the Springboks Next Take the Field?

While the Springboks are engaging in alignment camps in March this year, fans will need to wait until July to witness the Green and Gold back in action.

The opponents for the Springboks throughout the 2024 season have been confirmed, with all their home matches now scheduled.

To kick off, the Springboks have scheduled a Test match against Portugal, adding it to their 2024 Test lineup. This game is set to take place after a two-match series against Ireland.

Under the guidance of Rassie Erasmus, the team will face Portugal in Bloemfontein on July 20th, following the matches against Ireland in Pretoria and Durban on July 6th and 13th, 2024.
The encounter with Ireland at Loftus Versfeld marks the Springboks’ return to the field after a 252-day hiatus. A week after, they will play the Six Nations champions at Kings Park, marking the team’s first visit to South Africa in eight years.

The Springboks won the 2016 series against Ireland 2-1, but since then, Ireland has triumphed in all three subsequent matches (and five out of the last seven), including a memorable 13-8 victory in Marseille during the Rugby World Cup pool stage.

NEW TERRITORY
The Springboks are set to face Portugal on July 20th, marking their first Test match in the city of roses. Portugal left a significant mark at the Rugby World Cup with an exciting draw against Georgia and a 24-23 victory over Fiji in their final group match.

Additionally, as part of the Rugby Championship, the Springboks will face fellow World Cup finalists New Zealand in August and September for two Rugby Championship Tests. On August 31st, for the first time since 2009, the Boks aim to secure three consecutive victories against the All Blacks.
